Buddhi Series 1999

The plaster Buddhi series were done as a preparatory piece for an "artist in residence" at the Pilchuck Glass School in Seattle. They were loosely configured from animal heads, primarily cat-like forms, using hydrocal, hemp, earth pigments and marble dust over sand. By manipulating the forms with varying pressures, each movement of the hand gave rise to a different posture of animal head. Questions of posture presenting presence which relates animal nature to our own better human nature were explored. The pieces were then taken to Pilchuck and pressed into the sand for a sandcasting in green glass. The cast glass Buddhis were then sandblasted and reworked with mediums. They are to be installed as one piece.
